PicoWay™

PicoWay is a picosecond laser with high peak power and ultra-short pulse durations. It reaches below the surface of the skin to target pigment, such as dark spots or tattoo ink, and breaks it down into tiny particles nearly invisible to the naked eye. PicoWay is FDA cleared for treatment of acne scars, wrinkles, pigmentation (dark skin spots), and tattoo removal.

PicoWay Resolve is a treatment on the PicoWay laser system, using a laser handpiece that splits the full beam into tiny microbeams. This allows treatment of conditions like acne scars and wrinkles. PicoWay Resolve acts by creating tiny open spaces, called vacuoles, under the skin where new collagen and elastin are built and can transform the skin over time. PicoWay treatments are typically brief (15-20 minutes) and are done over a series of treatment sessions spaced weeks apart. Your doctor will recommend a treatment plan that works best for you.

Laser light is targeted at unwanted pigment in ultrashort picosecond pulses. These pulses shatter the pigment into very tiny particles which are then easily eliminated by the body’s natural processes.* The PicoWay laser emits less heat energy than traditional lasers, providing a more comfortable treatment.

The degree of discomfort varies with each person depending on the nature and location of the pigmented lesions on the body.

During your first visit, your skin’s reaction to the laser will be tested to determine the most effective treatment. Immediately following treatment, a cold or cool compress may be applied to soothe the treated area. A topical antibiotic ointment may be recommended. In the first few days, take care to avoid scrubbing the area or using abrasive skin cleansers. Over a few days the lesions will darken and sluff off.

The effectiveness of the treatment depends on many factors such as the location, depth, size, and type of pigmentation. Some lesions will require several treatments for optimal results where some can be resolved in a single treatment.

PicoWay treatments selectively treat the melanin pigmentation while leaving surrounding skin undamaged.*

After treatments, patients will experience temporary discoloration or reddening of the skin around the treatment site. Some patients may also experience a temporary lightening or darkening of the skin. Not to worry though, the skin will typically resolve to normal pigmentation color in due time.

Yes, PicoWay can also treat multi-colored tattoos.*

The PicoWay laser treatment is different from an IPL in that it stimulates collagen on a deeper level because it uses three different wavelengths of energy to target specific skin issues. An IPL uses a broader range of wavelengths. It is a good treatment in some cases but isn’t as safe on darker skin types and doesn’t stimulate collagen in the same way.

Yes, it can treat and minimize the signs of melasma, however, your skin cells have great memory so, with continuous sun exposure and heat, melasma can return. Therefore, diligent skin care and sun block are necessary to prevent the recurrence of melasma.

You can wear make up the next day. You can cover up the dark spots with foundation but you can likely still see them through it.
